Ok... i'm attempting to do some stuff with the PHP GD system, to create images with PHP, but i'm running into a few snags. If anyone is familiar with this system, lemme know:)

Heh. Good luck with that.
Last time I did images with PHP, I hacked together a system involving the using of pre-stored images and dynamic echo("<img src=...>")s. There must be a better way, though.
Thanks alot, St.Even - Battle Dawn Head Moderator

i'm just looking for a way to dynamically change the image. I've got an image lets say...800x600 in dimension. Starts out blank. I add in different stuff from top to bottom, to add a layered effect, so stuff closer to the bottom, is on 'top'. However, i am trying to see if there is any way to dynamically add somethin in the middle of the picture,in front of the row behind it, and behind the row in front of it Just adding the image at the coords would put it over everything, which isn't what i'm looking for. I thought about doin ajax for the immediate response of a php page, but for dialup users, it would be a pain trying to load and reload an 800x600 image every 2 seconds when they move the mouse in/out of a certain area of the image....lol I assume its nearly impossible, if not completely impossible to do, at least using the php/javascript/ajax methods.

Everything is possible, the question is wether PHP GD will do it.
I personally worked on creating a game using a map, in the map you could see other players move their fleets to planets and move your own fleet(s) (you start out with a single ship though...). There were space battles, even though not animated... I failed heavily... It just wouldn't work, I tried multiple image manipulation languages..
I got the idea of using such a map from a working (now removed) outdated game... There were links all over the maps..
Everything is possible, but it's a pain to do it. What you described, is probably possible, but PHP GD is a true pain to work with in my opinion, and I honestly don't plan on ever trying it out again...
If you truly need help, I do have a friend who actually likes doing it... I wouldn't look at GD again even for a thousand bucks..

lol.... i figured most of the problems out....but now the images are all crap XD just a small demonstration : it seems that the first colors that are put in appear fine, but anything out side of that color base is distorted....which is slightly annoying i tried with both transparent gif's, and jpeg's, both resulted the same color degradation relative to the first image that i loaded into the larger image.
