But in general a country is not made by the gonverment actions but from its ppl living there :S There are some bad persons and there are good ones too :S
To sum up:Its the same everywhere :S

lol at bumping it,

i started this thread to shed light on what is supposed to be one of the most free and awesome countries around

i point at the utter hypocrisy in its position of supposedly protecting freedoms.
instances like taking out Chile's democratically elected marxist supporting government and replacing it with a brutal dictatorship funded by the CIA is quite contrasting to their statement to the world.

while Europe is bad, Asia is bad, i somewhat came here half serious half troll to point out that USA is about as far from perfect as the USSR was.
only, instead of killing the people within its borders, it helps people kill each other beyond its borders.

thank you for bumping dead thread.

The above is for you ducky. I think your a professor myself...

Anywho, I agree with Kolopaper. Pointing out one country and pointing all it's faults is silly. It's like choosing a model and pointing out her faults.

why thank you, its nice to be acknowledged :3

and im not just pointing out rwanda and saying its on fire...

im pointing out that:
USA shifts markets as recently seen in the GFC
USA shifts politics as i have mentioned with the CIA ensuring most of South America is so effed over that their own liberties look cooler then before
USA can drag other nations, who have no affiliation to the problem, just the country into war. Australia was dragged into Iraq war because John Howard slept with George Bush and decided it was best to enter a military conflict for lulz.
-Afghanistan at least, had reason >.>

USA and its actions affect every single person on earth.

this entire thread was dedicated to people that believed that USA epitomized the free world, in its social and political stance.

but i point out that its foreign policy makes 3/4 of the presidents hypocrites

power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. being the judge, jury and executioner and not telling the people that support your position who you execute is a dangerous position and it is important to point at the flaws. especially ones as big as those related to USA. these flaws are compounded by the attitude that USA are the 'good guys' and the rest of the international community can GTFO or give USA lower prices for goods.

in a sense, USA is a politician in power, the rest of the countries are on the lower rungs, to say we should stifle any criticism of USA is blatantly stupid because we are singling out someone. side line politicians are never hit as hard as the ones in power.

btw, Chile+Nicarugua+south America in general was just something i happened to come across in history class rather then pay attention
it was the Chile coup de tat that caught my attention. a democratic election elected a person that was openly marxist, even though USA backed the other party... oh noes! must give chile a MILITARY DICTATORSHIP instead of a horrible socialist leader! riding on US funding, said dictatorship lasted until 1990.
and now USA is justifying smashing Iraq on the grounds of "toppling a dictator"

also saw a video with Noam Chomsky and he is pretty extreme in his stance but raises several facts that just slap most "American facts" in the face

its sickening to repeatedly have "USA is the greatest ever in everything" thrown at me by cheerleader touting USA nubs

Reagon? -reagonomics with its trickle down was supported everywhere
i have heard - "Greatest president ever"

then you research nicaragua contras for about 10 minutes. note how he deliberately effed over another country

Quote:
# targeting health care clinics and health care workers for assassination.
# kidnapping civilians.
# torturing civilians.
# executing civilians, including children, who were captured in combat.
# raping women.
# indiscriminately attacking civilians and civilian houses.
# seizing civilian property.
# burning civilian houses in captured towns.

- Human Rights Watch

19 million US dollars of aid.
went to the contras.
so they could rape women and torture civilians with US weaponry to defend their actions.

reagan asked for 36 million dollars.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Contra_affair

tell me, what values does USA stand for again?

tell me how being a subtle hypocrite isnt worth criticism?

I admit we do have incredibly hypocratic people and not everyone in power here is good but i still think it beats living in disgusting cities and crowded living spaces. I understand that we need improvement in some fields but if others consider us such a great country maybe their is hope we can improve.

exactly, thats my whole point, USA goes around criticizing North Korea or Iran for destabilizing regions.. their people spout how crap and undemocratic some countries are. but history shows a history with charred edges as USA can do whatever the <RABBITS> it wants because it has power.

and that is bad how?

there wont be much of a power vacuum as it is likely due to direct competition with another superpower.

globalisation and integration of markets mean war would be too negative to enact.

if you mean fall as in, catch on fire. i understand the fear. i just dont understand fearing the inevitable, its irrational.

a nice quote from some one :)

but screaming it out can get enough attention to prevent a major eff up being repeated.

ie. Brazil has WMDs im pretty sure of it...
