Guess the views of a wider body of people are still mixed, then.

Everyone is agreed that (2) is sniping. That is obvious anyway.

But some think (1) is not sniping, while others think (1) is sniping.

My thought: if someone is unlucky enough to attack from so far away, if I am closer and can get it in fewer ticks, why should I pass on that opportunity? If someone attacks, and will ETA in 4 ticks, while mine is ETA 3 ticks, why must I sit back and let him have it? The advantage in this game is surely that my OP was built closer to the target, to allow shorter ETAs.

Otherwise, as a matter of principle, it means that, regardless of how long my ETA is, so long as I launch first, no one else can take it.

Unless if my ETA is 4, no one can launch, but if my ETA is 5, someone else can launch, or something like that. But this does not make sense. What is the difference between ETA 4 and ETA 5, for example? It can even be any number.

For a rule or code of conduct to be feasible, it needs to be practical and certain. Calling (1) sniping cannot give that certainty of practicality. Anyone can then just launch first, and call everyone else a sniper.

The act of objectionable sniping should only be limited to (2), and to (3) if it is done deliberately.

yeah, I think this is a matter of diplomacy. It's up to you and that guy to decide who will return the troop.

Sniping is only unacceptable if the one you snipe or snipe u is the member of ur alliance or sub. Sniping other alliance is... well... let's say it's up to him. Last time I was in M1, we've sniped the 1st and 2nd alliance several times and have been sniped back by them several times too and we were completely fine with that.

The only thing that we were not fine is two of us launched on the same ticks. We msg-ed each other and decided that one of us (usually me) will return the troops.

Well I must say it's either one of you retreat or take risk in the diplomacy and fight him. If you choose the latter though, I suggest not to read any msg until you've taken the spoils (conquers, relics, crystals or wreckages) then read and reply with an apologize: "sorry I attacked and went offline so I didn't know you were heading there too", and hope he will overlook that ^^.

2 and 3 can be said to be sniping. Sniping actually is launching later, to kill the other guy and steal the loot. I usually use it as an ingame strategy to kill off my competitors whenever its possible.

Number 1 is clearly called sniping

ugh someone should wirte a A Voluntary Code of Nice Players (AVCONP), where it shows exactly what nice bd players don't do, like sniping, and gives a clear definition of it. In this code, There should probably be another word given for number 1, since it's debatable....
like 2 and 3 is sniping, and number 1 is ETA beating or something...

hmm, something to do this weekend...
