I think he is saying that if you beat him in a battle that is perhaps about to happen (?) you will eventualy loose to 'big' , big as he points out is an op so I don't know how but you will loose a battle with an op. perhaps a garrison. he also says that if he defeets you in this battle he will loose to the garrison, so what must have happened is that you are both going for a garrison so you two will battle but the victorious army will be so close to destroyed they will loose to the garrison's defences.

if not that then I don't know
