Well Legalization of Marijuana is like a counter-weight. Because Alcohol and Cigarettes cause more deaths than Marijuana and that what people are saying if Cigs and Alcohol is Legal then why not Marijuana, Right? If it gets legal should Cigs and Alcohol be illegal? But Alcohol and Cigs cause more death cause its legal but how about Marijuana? What if it gets legal? More Deaths, possibly riots, more fights, car crashes and more catastrophe. Its already at its best when Marijuana is Illegal, Why would we want to make it worse?

Diazepam is coming off less than intelligent with the fluoride fears IMO. Chlorine, Ozone, etc are all used to treat water for human consumption. Need that stuff to be sanitary.

The flouride mention was more of a joke than anything. The point I was making though is that I can trust my source of these types of things more than I could trust the government to be a good source.

When it comes to regular (smart) users of marijuana, they are better off with it remaining illegal. They know it's not laced, they know/are the source, and it's no doubt cheaper than it would be if the government had control of it and taxed it.

Let's pretend I grow and sell marijuana and the stuff is legalized in the way jake is envisioning. What will happen?

-I will keep my customers because my prices are better
-My customers will feel more confident smoking in public and owning the drug due to it being legal now (some may smoke and buy more)
-Marijuana use gains a much larger audience (more potential customers for me)

What won't happen?

-The government will not lower prices to compete with illegal sellers (they will get slandered for making it too readily available etc)
-They won't take the money/drugs out of the "criminal drug gangs" hands.

ACTUAL WEED FACTS: Marijuana may damage sperm count or have no effect. It also may cut testosterone production resulting in hormonal imbalance. Chronic use has confirmed effects in retarding sperm maturation, count and motility (sperm's ability to swim).

Thats cute, mountains of bureaucracy is actually a pretty good deterrent to messing up. There are too many levels on which failure and danger to the public can be caught by people, not black suited anonymous government agents but people like you and me but with a desk job in a sector of the EPA or what have you.

You cant grow tobacco yourself without a permit, penalties would occur for illegal growers. With permits, come regulation. Marijuana plants have 80% higher THC levels compared to the 1960s. Regulation would allow a fully controlled intake and understanding of THC amounts. Those who buy more will still have to worry about being in possession of too much cannabis. If they have enough to be considered a seller by the state, they would require a permit showing that they have undertaken whatever regulations are required to sell marijuana. If they lack proper licensing, boom! A fine and thus revenue for the state.

If you think you can just sell alcohol and tobacco willy nilly then you are dead wrong and if you think you can get away with treating marijuana as equal but different then that is just silly if not outright stupid. It will have to follow the same codes of conduct that tobacco and alcohol are stuck with. There is no such thing as stoner paradise.

He is correct. You can grow tobacco without a permit obviously, if you so choose. However, if you get caught by the authorities, you will face fines and potential jail time depending on how much you grew and if you were selling it or not without a permit.

Regulation would likely be in the same sort of vein, with likely regulations on permitting cultivation as well as potency standards, etc. etc.. There are certainly going to be public and health impacts to be considered. Obviously many laws would have to be adjusted to fit the given impacts on DUI and public intoxication scenarios.

It would be interesting to see how it all plays out. I do agree that statistically speaking, marijuana is responsible for far fewer deaths and calamity than alchohol all on it's own, but it is to be understood that due to it's nature, it is more difficult to gather accurate knowledge of just how many accidents or deaths which may have resulted from use of marijuana both short and long term. That being said, if alchohol is legal, then marijuana, which is considerably less harmful any way you slice it, should not be prohibited either. At least in my opinion.

The economical advantages to both local and federal governent agencies through taxation and regulation, would be tremendous. Also, it would remove a HUGE chunk of business from those undesirable cartels over the border, which have and continue to cause major problems for local populations and authorities located along the borders themselves.

*Shadow Lurk* I believe there is much controversy whether or not chronic should be legalized but I think it would help our national debt lower crime rate and overall help our country as a whole if it was legalized so from the opinion of one who has no say so but just wishes to throw his opinion out there yes for marijuana.

We don't all live in the USA, Seth. I can grow tobacco on my own property legally without a permit.

I didn't realize this thread was titled "Legalization of Marijuana in USA"

weed is not something worth going to jail for, it's not that different from a cig really and it's not hurting other people (unless you're stupid about it) anyhow as a tax payer i would like my money being used to keep the guy with a crow bar about to jack your car than a guy smoking a joint.

besides weed makes you feel happy that's why people smoke it (constatution does safe life, liberty, freedom, and pursuit of happieness) :)

It's called US-centrism, many people from the USA suffer from it ;) It is indeed the same here as it is for you, Diazepam.
