This is what I'm suggesting.

spam and Misc. can be combined. i thought Misc was always redundant anyway.

We don't need misc AND spam.

You can call it whatever you want. But in my opinion, the new people we are trying to attract simply don't give a rats ass about "it's called spam, its always been spam, you don't know anything about this section, it has history!"

A misc section makes more sense for what we want to accomplish.

I don't see why we can't have both. Spam does have history. I don't think new people care about sections as much as they care about how the forum looks or what features it has.

This argument is logical, but I still disagree with it. Spam DOES have history, it's an important part of the community that is already here and there is no reason to get rid of it.

Nobody is saying get rid of it. I'm just saying we don't need a spam section and a misc section. They more or less serve the same purpose. One just doesn't get used. And if it were up to me, I'd rename it to misc. It falls in line with what people would expect to see. It matters to the new people what the section names are called, because it is them who judge whither they want to enter it, contribute to it, or just decide it isn't worth their time. It matters less to us what a section we frequent is called. Because well.. if anyone would leave because of a name change, then they probably aren't capable of contributing anything to the community anyway.

You could distinguish it from miscellaneous by giving it a subforum. Why not make forum games the subforum of spam? Or role play?

If we have a discussions section (for intelligent discussions, debates etc) and an off-topic section (for funny/random/whatever, regardless of the name), why would we need a sub forum? We have a roleplaying sub forum already and it hardly gets used. The threads created in the sub forum could easily just be created in the main section.
