I had to do a project on it a few years ago. The concept is sound but it will take quite awhile to get an oxygen content high enough for hospitable living. Its been suggested to use Algey to speed up the process because they consume CO2 at very high rate. Unfortunately, the logistics on that are horrendous. (by the way it may not be CO2 that it consumes buy I think so).

Ok, not to brag, but i am a genuis for my year, i am in year 9 (Australia) i get basically straight A's in all my work except for when i have to show my 'working out' which is gay, and i have tons of theory's regarding this stuff, and frankly, i watch alot of sci fi and stuff, but Rockets really suck, we waste what, half our fuel just to take off, we should lift off like planes, and build slowly, but before we start colonizing Mars and The Moon, i think we need to get a proper space station going, Not a crappy refuelling station or whatever, one with ARTIFICIAL gravity and oxygen, and that can hold AT LEAST 150 people, then we will be able to start trying to colonize, when i finish university i intend to be An AStrophsyisicist and i want to invent something like that, but frankly, i dont think we have the right to start working on colonizing until we can SAFELY colonize EARTH! look at tis place, The Ozone layer is failing, and the only sources of fresh air is if u sit in a tree! 1. FIX EARTH! Not just enviromentally, but Socially and Economically 2. Build real Space ships, faster and more economical 3. Build a PROPER Space Station 4. Theorize on Colonization 5. Colonize the moon 6. Mars 7. Get trade routes and people to start living there And so on and so forth, i dont care if it takes another 250 years, as long as someone TRIES! And im not one of those nerdy nerds that is a geek, i play footy, and i can place Boots 2 Asses when i need to! Any questions or if u wanna discuss anything with me, Im on Facebook, and im making skype... And, does anyone know a kind of soft song, with a verse, 'The moonlight curves across the street' Also, what video?

@hutchy dog melb australia? if so -> melb high?
the thing with moon colonisations is that the moon has little purpose other than as a secondary launching platform. mars has a certain amount of liquid trapped in its caps and the most economical terraforming i have heard of is using orbiting satelites with mirrors to induce warming at the caps, potentially vaporise them in order to create an atmosphere.
either way. the costs of space projects are much too high for colonisation to occur within 2 decades unless either. new fantastic invention or space elevator within 15 years.
one can still dream.
neil degrasse ftw.

new invention... I may agree to new spaceship engine or any ways that make space travel cheaper. But I don't see space elevator available soon. It's simply too high and will need a very big and deep foundation. Not to mention all those other factors like wind and weather corrosion that make mantainance cost as high as the elevator itself... Tbh if it can be done, the cost to make and maintain it is higher, if not double, the cost to launch a spaceship...

@mrducky, soz bro Oberon High in Geelong What do rockets take to make, fuel and then launch? Ok, a Space ship would have much better materials, LESS Fossil Fuels, and it would launch just like a plane... and a space elevator to a Space Station would be PRETTY DAM COOL! I have seen Megastructures on tv, and they use materials and things that fight ALL manner of weather anomilies, Earthquakes, Tsunami's, Heavy wind, rain, and they even hve lightning rods which redirect the lightning or use them to charge.... That would be great, ir could be powered by 4 things! Electricity, fuel, Solar Panels and LIGHTNING!

Electricity, fuel, Solar Panels and LIGHTNING! you will find conventional 'fossil fuels' dont do it. they burn solid hydrogen or liquid hydrogen mixes. a carbon nanotube rope, the thickness of your arm could more than support, in terms of tensile strength (be careful here) a space elevator. that said, someone with garden shears could cut it.
