Books will be totally replaced by their technological counterparts (the kindle, you know) and then those technologies will be replaced by the Iphones and the Macs and the million other things people feel they have to buy. We have kids who can't read even a sentence and can't even sound out the words without the teachers help, and we're seniors in high school. Almost 12 years of school and they can't even sound out words and a single sentence takes 5 minutes to read. You can blame Jersey shore, 16 and pregnant, and all the other *CENSORED*. Oh and the music. I listen to lil wayne but I don't call girls hoes. Kids just like to imitate what they see and hear. It's a fact. I completely agree. Like i stated earlier, they do what they think makes them look "cool" for their friends.

Very true Dyl. Media has a HUGE impact on kids as they are very impresionable. always trying to find the newest trends. But MOST of today's music is just dumbing them down to nothing. I listen to modern rap and stuff, sure. But I listen to older music and country as well. The Beatles, Queen, The Who, The Temptations, Ray Charles, etc. are all amazing musicians, but kids won't listen to them because they aren't "cool" musicians.

You'd be surprised. Anything that's been out for more than a month is considered "old". Which is odd, because the top 40 chart and all of that rarely changes. And you guys are completely right. Everyone's concerned about how they look, how many friends they have, what they have, what they say, what they wear, what they do, to the point where "being yourself" means absolutely nothing to them.

trends and being "modern", that's wat they all think about. I can bet that they don't even try to see if it's good or not. Everyone do that, so I do that. Everyone do this so I do this...
I've lost count of being called "ancient" when listening to the 80s music, like Hotel California, or Boulevard, Right here waiting, etc.

Otis Redding, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, The Tempations, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, I like old and semi old music a lot better than the repetitive autotuned stuff they have now. Baby baby baby, really? How creative.

Yes, but don't get me wrong, there are TONS of good modern music. You just need to find it.

Well ya, for sure. Nicki Minaj, Eminem, the wanted, Coldplay, Onerepublic, those are some people I listen to. But you can't say Justin Bieber or Jessie J have any talent. That's not just me joining the bandwagon either. I dislike Justin Bieber's music, but he seems like a nice person.
Anyways, I think the reward thing is the best way to get them to read. I'm sure anyone would do something they hate for something they love. That's a part of human nature, (although it might qualify as greediness) and it prevails over laziness.

Just throwing it out there libraries are also very good for reading. First of all they have tons of books to choose so its easy to find one you may want. Second of all I know the nearby one to me does but they have reading lists that you can fill out and earn pizes like the prviously mentioned food along with having book movies and teen reads at food places and such.

Yes, this is very true. The library close to my house back home does things every saturday like Video games, board games, card games, book groups, etc. It brings teens to the library, and hopefully has them check out books. (In order to participate in them, you need to summarize a book that you've read). So it's a start, but it isn't much.

I love reading, and most of my friends read occasionally... Teens do read just not the dumb preppy stereotypical ones, its always been like that and always will. But the truth is, the real teens (preps/jocks/popular kids included) also read, we all do Mybe thats just my city...
