Point taken. But it doesn't matter what his intentions are (I don't think they're good). He's saying screw the 2nd amendment. And he's saying let the drug lords and gang members have guns, but normal citizens can just hand theirs over. It's like prohibition. No one's going to listen, because things like guns and drugs are rooted in American culture. Unfortunately.

But in the long term, It does make sense from a governments perspective. They've got to start sometime. People just won't be happy if it happens in their lifetime.

More than the constitution, I think this could be a cultural issue as well. When you have possessed weapons for 200 or 300 years, it becomes part of your culture to have arms. Besides, the bad guys will ALWAYS have weapons. Secondly, owning weapons for self defence falls in line with the limited government and freedom principle. And I agree with that. If a burglar breaks into your house, would you hide in a room and call the police and wait for them, or would you prefer to take your gun and defend yourself?

The problem is not the good guys having the weapons. Its the bad guys.

Also a lot of countries are pushing for possessing weapons for self defence. Atleast I know in India, there is a group called Indians for Guns, and I support them. Crime will always be on the rise, as time goes on. This is because of more and more exposure, competition etc., In these times you need weapons to protect yourself. The government has a right to protect national security, but personal security should be left to the citizens, as its logistically impossible for a government to provide security for everyone.

My friend was returning from office around 2 AM and some guys pulled him aside and tried to mug him. Though they didnt succeed, they still managed to stab his hand with a screwdriver, and my friend needed stitches. If he had had a gun on him, this wouldn't have happened.

Ted Nugent explains it pretty clearly:

You know, I totally agree with the Nuge on that one. He did an interview with Piers Morgan too, and I love that one. Especially the part where he tells Piers to kiss his ass!

But you know, another thing to be considered is exactly what Allen mentioned. The cultural impact. The fact is that what made this country great from the beginning was the very fact that it was "by the people, and for the people", and the 'right to bear arms' gave an element of accountability and created a deterrent by means of potential repercussion if government became to dictatorial or corrupt etc..

Well, I for once is against guns. Coming from the naive country Norway where its not normal for even police officers to have guns :)

But I'm kinda agreeing with Allen on what he say about it being a part of the culture. So I'm a bit divided in this case.

First the NDAA which allows the government/police to arrest you without warning, now the abolishment of guns. Seems a little fishy to me. One things for sure, if he wants me to give up my guns, he's gonna have a fight in front of him. And that's for damn sure.

If no one has guns, then its fine. But if everyone has guns and you take away a few, then its gonna create more problems if anything else. Plus the culture thing would get in the way in a big way.

And Matt, dont get shot fighting law enforcement. You DEFINITELY wont get your right to keep guns after that

What's confusing you?

Your confusion is making me confused. Stop it.

Getting back on topic, what can you do? Honestly what can you do? I appreciate the protesters around the country and groups like Anonymous, but this isn't a V for vendetta fantasy thing. Protest all you want, it won't matter. Sorry if I seem too negative but it's true.
