So your saying pessimism is human instinct? I don't get the whole logic behind 'shocking disturbing and sad news always wins'.

it's curiousity. And no, not pessimistic all the time. Sometimes, if some good things happen, and they are enough to get lots of attention, receiving a Nobel Award or win the World Cup for examples, will get to the headlines...

nope, it's very common here even in Vietnam or Finland. U put shocking or negative news on the top, becuz it will make everyone wanting to read it. Scandals, wars, riots, natural disasters,... u will see these on the headline of the news everywhere u go, instead of new inventions, economic growth, rewards,...

Yeah but this is not the same as negative news. They dont put these type of things on the headlines. They have a blog, or a seperate section to cover India and China, because these are the 2 powers in Asia and say negative things about them over there. Their negativity is however subtle. They will take say a recent development - like say India built a multirole fighter aircraft recently - and then arbitrarily compare it with an American aircraft and say stuff like its not very good etc., When in reality, there would be no way for them to jump to such conclusions because they are neither pilots, nor have flown both aircraft in combat to find out.

I am not talking about front page shocking news. There is nothing shocking about India. I am talking about a general negative attitude that certain newspapers and Channels take towards specific countries or political parties.

if they have a section that compare other countries, I doubt that it will be popular. No matter wat, comparing with other countries will make a huge discontent in the readers. If any news report do things like that, it fails...

Man dont reply for the sake of replying without understanding what am trying to tell you. Its not comparisons. Its purposefully taking a political stand instead of being neutral, and while highlighting a country's challenges and issues, heavily downplaying its achievements and strengths. Let me know if you dont get what this means.

This is not negative news. This is not comparing countries. This is not front page news. This is not page 3 news. This is not used as a piece of news to increase TRP ratings or sell more. This is just a blatant, partial stance taken against certain countries, while the news media is supposed to be neutral and just report news.
