The death penalty should be more widely used. With murderers and rapists crowding up the jails, the death penalty would save us so much money. No need for that expensive lethal injection crap. Just put a bullet in their head. It can't cost much more than $1

The death penalty itself actually costs more than imprisoning somebody, because of all the legal proceedings that must take place before the penalty is carried out- Someone has to be pretty much completely proved to be guilty for the death penalty, not merely beyond any reasonable doubt. Besides, if someone who has been executed is proved by new evidence to be innocent, you can hardly give them a large compensation cheque and let them go, can you.

IMO, the death penalty is effectively state sanctioned murder, and is it really a punishment for the individual in question? Surely life in prison would be worse, as they have to consider what they have done, rather than having a quick, painless end.

what if the person wants them to kill him? then what do they do? if they dont he will probably kill himself

Who wants who to kill them?

If it's the "murder" victim, then you end up going into Assisted Suicide and the like, which is a completely different topic.

No
by Erasmus (of Rotterdam) and seems to date from about 1510. It may be older than that

That quote is hardly relevant- the only relation it has to this topic is the fact that it shares a word with a Gandhi quote regarding an eye for an eye.

NO it dos have a point and the whole point is it is all in the opinion for this topic there can be and is two sides on what people think should happen and for me i am going toward a side that leaves punishment worth that i don't think humans should be able to decide who lives or dies do to it could kill a innocent person but it may also convict a murderer i am the fence post within the battle i see this going either ay and both could be good. So for now i am not sure on the subject so i choose to watch how this unfolds with a few spoken words here and there.

ok to start people stuck on morals:
innocent men are killed due to the death penalty and they are also killed by the murderers themselves we cant always make the right decisions because we are not perfect and if we were there would be no crime.
now do we have the right to take a life away? just as much right as the murderers did "treat people how you wish to be treated" he killed somebody so sorry your decision
FACTS: yes it does cost more money to execute somebody UNTIL WE HAVE TO BUILD MORE JAILS TO HOLD ALL THE PRISONERS that constantly seems to be 1 thing that people constantly ignore and on top of that we would have to hire more people to run all of the prisons which makes it about equal

remember this world is not all black and white there are twists and turns to everything which has made the world how it is today so humans cannot always make the right decisions but MOST people are very capable of self-control
