i bet i can pwn everyone here. last year my team absolutely crushed the opposing side when it came to whale hunting.

the fact of the matter is. Japan does have a quota. a limit.

the fact of the matter is. there is a market for whale meat in japan. its an industry like farming cows.

the fact of the matter is. japan makes sure to avoid even more international backlash by sticking to the quota given by the IWC and generally hunt NON ENDANGERED, COMMON minke whales. bringing up the endangered ones doesnt really mean much if the whale hunters are leaving them alone

the fact of the matter is. people are hypocrites, they cry out over precious lumbering pieces of fat in the ocean but dont care about the sheep that becomes lamb chops, the pigs that become bacon rashes, the cows that become T bone steaks.

im pretty sure pigs are more intelligent then minke whales. many pigs are on par/surpass the intelligence of dogs.

its regulated. its transparent. the japanese are sticking to the IWC set quota and the sea shepard guys are known terrorists. but thats a different debate.

Like I said, it's integrated into our economy, removing it would leave a bad scar in the market.

its not that, its that there is no REAL reason to remove it, its regulated enough as it is and those sea shepherd terrorists are being worse every year.

Actually Kenny gave me a pie-chart and Whale Hunting seems quite insignificant to the Japanese economy.

Hey Isao, what part of Japan do you live in that you are involved with USA politics and don't know the economics of your own nation?

Just wondering.

Well MrDucky, there is a lot of illegal whale hunting going on besides it and surely forbidding whale hunting world-wide would make it a lot easier to get rid of whale hunting in total?

Also, I couldn't give a flying buck about the life of a fish, but I do think keeping all species alive is of vital importance for the continuation of life on earth.

what reason is there to make whale hunting world wide illegal?
minke whales
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minke_whale#Whaling
are not endangered in ANY way.
the whole "OMG WHALES ARE ENDANGERED" is just nomsense. NOMSENSE. when you factor in that minkes make up like 95%+ of the catch and the rest is also specified as alright by the IWC the whole "whales are endangered" nomsense is nomsense.

continuation of life on earth? give more thought for the fish who are getting OVER fished as opposed to the minkes where are culling doesnt really affect their population.
there is MORE overfishing going on.
anyone who wants to stop japan whaling but not the rest of the world for fishing is either:
a. ignorant of the facts
b. a hypocrite.

lucky most fall under a.
people just like whales because apparently they are intelligent, unfortunately they have never been to a farm and noted that a pig's intelligence is on par with a dog's intelligence. its cause they are cute and friendly. >.>

oh btw, japan's economy is in 3 areas, the rest is neglible
1. technology (from new TVs to building giant robots capable of destroying the world)
2. anime ( :D )
3. creepy, weird and questionable stuff. (such as building godzilla and the strange stuff in their vending machines)

whale hunting has no real impact on Japan's economy. but it does have jobs and it has no reason to be outlawed.

Meh, I sometimes ask my uncle about these things but I'm not big on politics.

I live in Hokkaido, on vacation here now, but right now I'm studying abroad in the US. I'd rather not go into details on this stuff since I don't know you people. xD

MrDucky has a great point as well. Why just the whales when there are fish being eaten, faster than they can be produced?

it appears all the whale lovers have abandoned ship

this discussion is dead.

let this thread die.

let this be a lesson to all,
dont bother saving the whale;
if you dont have facts, if you dont have evidence.
you just look like on big fail.

emotional pleas fall on deaf ears unheard
"OH ITS FAT" "OH ITS CUDDLY" "OH ITS SMART" doesnt quite make it
as evidence amongst the more intelligent peers
if you like animals so much stick to bean curd
