Also, American Football gets football because the balls are supposed to be a "foot" long. I have no verification however.

More likely called football because it's a variation of football - they all branched from the same game.

I found where I got that from too... Not very legit so Routhy's reason stands and maybe now we can lower a little of the hostilities ^^
(Only on battledawn of course... Will never happen widespread :( )
