hmm, interesting question, probably because football came first and is used all over the world in a larger scale then american football =)

Actually Soirem is right when calling it Futbol and football. Consider ur post simmen, I mean u are right when u say "american" should be a better way to differentiate both footballs tho consider the fact u may be talking to an american person ie me. Living in Mexico I've always called both games "football" making the only difference of the way I write both. Why? u may ask. It's simple, futbol is the way u write it properly in spanish while football is the proper english-american way to write it.

I believe we have established that this was made my soccer/football/futbol lovers to piss off football/american football people

they are not really using their hands for anything else then kicking it once in a while, and running. if thats the qualifications needed handball might be concidered football as the goal keeper can use their feet
