I've played from the old beta & every alliance I ever joined I became the head of tactics/intelligence.
Always the only one to get out alive when ever donators decided to muscle their way through.
I haven't lead many alliances though.... The leader would always put me to start branches because I was one of their best & they figured I could help start up the newbies I guess...

The main theme in my tactics in war is to lull the enemy into a false sense of security...
