1. When you build units, make sure you build them to your advantage. Ex. Fighters have an advantage against frigates Frigates have an advantage against cruisers. So try and build your units anti your enemies chassis if you want a advantage. 2.Do not mix your units. 3. Similar to tip number one, same goes with the weapon types. Lasers are good against fighters Plasmas are good against frigates Torpedos are good against cruisers.

I was taught the Golden 2:1 ratio. This is, Range to Armour. Basically, each squad for fighters should have 20 Range, 10 Armour units. For frigates, 10:5, and for cruisers, 7:3.
What happens is, the Range units kill off quite a few enemy units, while the Armour take the main damage. This is super valuable in wars.
One thing though, Don't change your chassis. If you're making fighters, stick with fighters. Don't make half your army fighters, a quarter frigates, and the rest cruisers. It makes your army disorganized.
