What happens when a new Era starts?

Does it erase everything on the world? (Alliances, outposts, etc.)
Like making a new game? :D

When the era ends, it goes into havoc. When the world actually restarts, ticks will be frozen for about a day or so, then ticks will start moving as ususal.
