How about a 30 or 40 second first clock? Then a 20 second clock for the rest of the game...

The first 30-40 second clock will allow you your strat time and a look at opponents weapons. Get a feel for what you'll need to do...

The 20 second clock for the rest of the battle is a good option in that, after all, this is an arena based fight where you don't have time to strategize, just time to react and survive...

Yeah, that's a good idea as well. But laggy players do not necessarily benefit from that.

ah they already have a cure for laggy players: adjust the quality.

I would not mine if there was at least 25 seconds on the clock. But that does not seem like an option...

Wait wait you're contradicting yourself; if this isn't speed chess, then why have such a short time? Twenty seconds also makes it kinda harder for those with lag, and there isn't much real point in the timer being so short; 30 seconds isn't so far from it to say "OMG now the other guy will spend all eternity playing", so why the rush? Thirty seconds seems fine; any more would be abuse though, if you'd spend 1 minute or more thinking your actions, perhaps you DO need the push to be faster ;)

I'd go for 20 as it makes the game faster paced and I like that.

I do like the idea of a longer first tick to look at the enemies weapons.
Also, as the vote is pretty much split down the middle, it would seem like if we have to have a fixed time for all ticks, then 25 would be a good value.
