1)Click this.  2)Then find your friend.  Make sure there is a tick next to his name (green tick) else he's not online. Then in the bottom right corner of the screen click send battle invitation.

No starwa7s, it's not the green tick, it shows on everyone that you're friend with. The background should be green when you don't select that friend, or that means they are offline. If you select them, it will not matter whether if they are online or not, the background will be orange...
