i use mostly shield 3, because it has a good balance of dmg absorbion and draining energy. shield 1 is not draining so much energy, but you take much damage from attacks. and i also try not to use resistance kits, but i keep them on my mech just in case my opponent are using them. personal opinion, i think those should be removed, many players are using them instead of a good tactic.

My tactic: Kiss of death, if you have more swords than your opponent, they can't kill you in melee, all they can do is push you away and run.
PS. You need a good amount of health and heat capacity.

Kiss of Death

that is a good tactic, and I've been using it a lot, however what if he had killed your energy in his first turn?

Well, I changed it a bit now I have a heat and energy sword so its all good if I can pull them. I always have a spare NRG kit in my hands, and it works quite alot this tactic :)

I'm very happy to have reached lvl 100. There have been a good couple of thousand battles, it seems that glitching problems have been solved, so what's left is to build, fight and prevail.

Allow me to share some thing I've observed so far. This goes for any build, there are lots of noobs at both lvl 20 and 60. Most people just slap a mech together without much forethought of what will work. If you have a plan, you're better off than most. If you have a good mech and a plan, you will win 8 out of 10 matches. Kits help a lot.

- within the first turn you should be able to predict the outcome of each bout. this insight comes from lots of time spent in the shop and lots of bought items.

- a good mech is rare, and so are good legs, and good weapons.

- stick to your level bracket or one above.

- cover all ranges with your 4-6 weapons. if you have a hole, or a spot on the map on which you cannot fire, you are at a disadvantage.

- you must have at least some resistancies.

- your heat should be above the average for that level bracket.

- it is better to have a sword than to have none. I've seen some good swordless builds, however they are all one trick ponies, and once you adjust your mech to them, they will fall easily.

- against most people it is best to have 2 swords to their one or none. against people who have a plan and a balanced build, it is better to use just 1. the 2 swords are above all a psychological advantage - no one will put themself in front of 2 high damage swords if they can help it, so if found in that situation, most people will move. if they move, they are not dealing damage. if they stomp, it's half damage of a weapon at best.

- it is important who starts first, and it is also important that two equal level players have one move instead of 2 initially, according to who is less expirenced getting the one move advantage.

- better 2 medium heating weapons than one high heating.

- if you're using an energy drainer, make sure you can finish all of the opponent's energy in 2 turns flat. if you make his drone misfire, that's good. if your drone finishes his shield, that's better. but it is best to do it at once, if you can.

- it is important what the hook does and what the charge and teleport do. this is not Barbie dressup ;)

- if you bought it, keep it. never sell.

That is all! I'd like to mention a few worthy gentlemen: Aeacus, wache2014, Mike5Mike, Titan, JustG. Some of the best players around!

My list of strategies include
-A "lean" mech, I didn't slap anything together, all of my items are levels 11-12 (exceptions for some kits, modules, and the electric rifle)
-I never finish my turn with a grappling hook, charge, or teleport
-Not only do I not have gaps, but sometimes I get to choose my weapons at certain ranges, an electric rifle/heavy gauss rifle combo can be crippling at my level.
-I don't have a sword, but I do have a triple spammer if it gets close.
-If we're pushed to opposite ends of the map, I'm not shy to use my teleport or charge.
-I never use the grappling hook against people with swords or triple spammers unless I can finish the battle in that turn.
-Never sell something until you see how you're new setup has done, if you were better off before you can re-equip and cut your losses.

So those are my basic strategies as of right now. If any of you have any input, I'd be glad to hear it.

i play a different style, i am basically an energy drainer and im able to hit people from anywhere on the map. and just incase my energy gets drained 1st i have artillery 1 and my double red which can actually overheat people if need be, and normally im able to beat people that use 2 swords except for deflower  but anyhow im a balanced builder and all my weapons except artillery 1 have a knockback so i keep it a ranged battle

It sometimes is not a bad idea to end a turn with a grappling hook if you can cause your opponent to overheat and are against the wall. I do this if I have only 1 turn and know in the long run it will help me out.

Also, it forces the opponent to wast their turn to move. Especially if you have at least one sword. If they do stay and attack, make sure you can do enough damage to end them. You don't have to be doing more damage all the time if you have more hp than them.
