if you count manga as a book then i can tell you a lot *kekkeke* but as i see the /lit/ hates /a/ so i'd better tell you about books
well i really enjoyed the one and only" "Лолита" by a russian author: Vladimir Nabokov
i loved it cause (ofc. the idea) and the never-ending cliffhanger that it was and the 140% detail that the writer went to in every detail is just Win.
i hate twilight & HP.
but talking about HP. there's a book named "guild of the mages" (the title is translated poorly and i don't know the actual title, i just know the title in my mother tongue. but when needed i can find it) talking about a commoner girl who has magic casting power but doesn't know how/why/when etc. and at the end .. she....

All time favorite series is Discworld by Terry Pratchett, but it's VERY closely followed by the Xanth series by Piers Anthony
They're both interesting in the way that the characters are used and the order in which they're read. Discworld doesn't even have an order, they're typically just listed chronologically by when they were released. They don't even have the same characters. In one book there might be one main character, and then in another book he might be a sub-main or a supporter character, or just barely mentioned, like he's seen walking down the street or something. So the first few you read can be a little confusing, but as you read more you get to really know the characters well, because even if he just has 3 lines in one book you know a lot about him because of the books where he was a main character.
Xanth is organized more by generation. The books each loosely tie in together, but as long as you start at the beginning of a generation you won't have much trouble jumping in. For instance, the first book of the series the main character is Bink. He's a nobody and in his story he becomes the king. A few books in, he's married, and the kid is the main character. Then it jumps down the royal line, and eventually it's his distant ancestors who are the main characters.
Weird character progression isn't really something I look for in books, but it definitely can make a series stand out to me when it's done correctly. Case in point above lol

My favorite book is ender's shadow. Along with the entire series one of the best ever written of I say so myself. Another would be pendragon and the alex rider adventures. And ofc the bible.
