I'm straight. No, I don't give a damn if you're gay, bis, trans, asexual, pansexual, whatever. I'm with Alex, though. Don't throw it in my face. I don't run around and beg for straight pride parades. I have many friends who are gay, and they're my friends because they're not running around flaunting it. People who throw it in my face that they're gay, bi, whatever, just piss me off. It's the same way as racism.
Why does it matter what we identify with? Talks like this only further seperate the gap between people. We wouldn't identify races or sexual orientation if people just stopped talking about, and stopped caring about it. There is no difference between a black guy and a white guy. Or a gay guy and a strait guy. Not one lick.
I'd like to quote a book I'm reading for my speech class:
"...Unless you live in a culture that recognizes such differences as significant, they are socially irrelevant and therefore, in a way, do not exist. a "black woman" in Africa, therefore, who has not experienced white racism, does not think of herself as black. African, yes. A women, yes. But not a black woman."
-Johnson, Allen G. "Privilege, oppression, and Difference." Privilege, Power, and Difference. (2nd Ed). New York, NY: Mcgraw-Hill, 2006. p 17. Print.
The same goes for sexuality. If we do not place any significance on what sexuality one prefers, then those sterotypes and bigoted statements would no longer exist.

You aren't looking at the statement clearly enough. Only the outer shell of it man. What I'm saying, is that if you don't identify yourself with a certain race or sexuality, then eventually those stigmas surrounding them will dissapear, and it will no longer matter.

In some ways yes, all of a sudden there are things you can't say and things that you try to avoid around these people. Don't misinterpret what I am saying but all of the things you are bringing up are just different ways to classify people. Notice the name "What race are you?" why would you be asking if it didn't matter to you? If it didn't make a difference to you why would you bring up such flame bait?

Don't misinterpret what I am saying but all of the things you are bringing up are just different ways to classify people. Guess what? That's exactly my point. YOU feel that certain social restrictions have been put up after learning the sexuality of people. That's you who feels like that. You have attached other peoples sexual preference with how you act around them. I don't do that. I don't think it matters at all, and I act the same way around everyone. There is nothing I would say to a straight person that I wouldn't say to a bisexual person (vice versa and all variations). Quote: Notice the name "What race are you?" why would you be asking if it didn't matter to you? If it didn't make a difference to you why would you bring up such flame bait? Why are you kicking up such a fuss if it didn't matter to you? People ask lots of things that don't matter. For example: "How old are you?" "What colour are your eyes?" "What size are your shoes?"

Hi guys. I am sorry, but I am past being comfortable with this thread now.
I really do not see any reason or place for this conversation in this community. There are alot of forums out there where you can discuss sexuality and the like, but this really isnt it. I debated with myself on whether or not I needed to intervene here, and honestly after taking a breather this afternoon, I came to the conclusion that whether or not I can trust you to conduct yourselves in a mature manner is irrelevant. There is simply not much reason to have a discussion on sexual orientation in this game community.
The goal on my part is to try and keep the community growing. On one hand, I don't want to be heavy-handed and overbearing in moderation, but on the other, I need to maintain an atmosphere condusive to more growth. To be honest, in that respect, if I were new to this community and this was one of the first threads I saw, I would prolly leave, and I certainly wouldnt allow my kids to come here! Not if this is the sort of thing I could expect to see.
Your sexual orientation really has no bearing on this community or the game or any of the details therein. I really do not think it wise to go trying to force it in there somwhere in such a way as this thread has attempted to. If you wish to disclose such things to eachother in PM, that is one thing, but to make the thing into a public discussion...meh, im not so sure I agree with that.
I am going to shut this down for now. If anyone has a problem with that, feel free to raise your concerns with me in PM.
Thanks for your understanding.
