Pierce Brosnan was offered a contract of another 5 movies, and he was going to accept it. But they got in a huge fight over the terms and Pierce decided he never wanted to have anything to do with James Bond again.
In my eyes, Daniel Craig's James Bond movies are fine movies, but they shouldn't have the guts to place 007 infront of them. They removed the theme, the british humor and style, the cool gadgets and everything that differs James Bond from all other action movies. All things that made James Bond, James Bond, and not xXx or something like that, are gone. Even the old Money Penny relationship is nowhere to be seen.
Daniel Craig isn't playing James Bond, Daniel Craig is playing Daniel Craig. The movies changed fully and this WAS what the directors wanted. They were convinced that James Bond had no future if it wouldn't change around: they think that it no longer "fits" into the new movies.
In my eyes, this is utter bullcrap because I remember that Pierce's sales where sky-rocketing.
With this act, a lot of the true "fans" of James Bond, including me, my best friend, my grandfather (he watched them all), and several people I know, have simply lost all interest into James Bond.
My Grandfather watches a lot of movies and got every single James Bond movie, in his opinion, James Bond has been killed.
I do not think James Bond will get past the Daniel Craig movies, I think that after his contract ends, James Bond ends to. They lost the fanbase which managed to get James Bond to stick, even through the worse movies. It's only a matter of time before others lose interest in the blunt action movies and I doubt that the Directors can keep James Bond living like this forever. I think that Daniel Craig's 7 movies contract (or was it 5?), had a simple message:
"Let's get some money out of it while we still can.".
Sorry for the long post, but I am a huge Pierce Brosnan fan and I watched Casino Royale in the theaters. I never been that disappointed by a movie before.
