ive made over 5k+ metal downgrading/razing ops over 3 days on M3. Trust me its worth it. Just have like a squad called op taker and put 1 armor inf in it and take op from conquered people. Definitly worth it.

i love just finding random batches of OPs that are unoccupied (radar bases, etc) and capturing them. Downgrade and then raze after 12 ticks. Got me to T5, and 50 units in 50 ticks on one server. :P
