The man convicted of the Lockerbie terrorist attack on a Pan-Am flight over Scotland 21 years ago has been sent home to Libya by the Scottish Government.

He has terminal cancer, will die within 3 months, and was released on compassionate grounds & sent home according to due process accorded by the independent Scottish Legal system.

There has been a serious cloud over the legitimacy of the trial of this man, and senior Scottish QC's have publicly stated that the prosecution, held in Belgium, was a mistrial.

The furore in the US over the release of Abdulbaset al-Megrahi has been predictable. Now there is a campaign for Americans to boycott holidays in Scotland and Scottish products & businesses. They are outraged at the mercy shown to a 'terrorist'.

I have just one point to make.

Several years ago, the US brokered the Good Friday agreement in Northern Ireland - championed by Bill Clinton. In this agreement, SEVERAL HUNDRED CONVICTED TERRORISTS were released back into their communities. These include bombers & murderers of civilians, policemen, soldiers, et cetera, drug dealers, crime bosses et cetera.

The hypocrisy of US foreign policy & the shallow, reactionary and blinkered view of the US on world affairs is on occasion breathtaking.
