Other Internet giants who oppose the bill include Facebook, eBay, Mozilla, Twitter, and Huffington Post parent company AOL.

Maybe because of that. ^^

How is this good news? Do you guys do not care for the industry you seem to support so much? Piracy is KILLING the industry..Do you want our grandchildren to have no music, movies or TV shows? Come on people.. =L

They will have the pirated ones ;)

Anyway this law will take away a lot of videos on youtube etc., That does no good. You could just buy a DVD in the store, and make 1000 copies of it and sell it. Even that is piracy. Infact thats rampant in India. If you go to one of those markets where you get all kinds of electronic equipment and stuff, you will find tons of these cheap DVDs. And in good quality. So why would I spend more money on something that I can buy for 10 times less?

Online piracy is just a way to curb people from sharing info and such.

The difference between online piracy and local, physical piracy is that when hosted online everybody in the world may download.

Once things are forced to go physical, things are much easier for the police; simply get a tip and bust the kid making DVDs in his basement.. Crack down like they have with drugs. Once that's happened, a lot less people will own pirated content. Yes, the hardcore kids will still take the risk of buying a DVD here and there but the casual pirater will not. It's a fact that the majority of piracy is preformed by the casual 20 year old guy in uni..

Passing this bill may have restored hope for the world of media..Guess it was just never meant to be ^_^

iirc, Youtube remove all licensed video, audio in a piece of time. How many time has u seen a audioless video on Youtube?

and pirated softwares are illegal right now without the SOPA. But ppl still download it. With the SOPA, piratebay can be closed down. Then lots of other websites will be opened up.

If SOPA is passed, it will do bad more than good.

Its not a kid making DVDs in his basement. Its an industry. You cannot crack down on anyone.

Secondly, restricting sharing stuff over the internet is a draconian law. Its not like these guys dont make any profits. You also have to understand the larget picture. If a website is barred, other websites like Paypal cant do business with them. This will not only affect individuals but whole other companies just because the media giants wanna ban stuff like torrents. Such extensive censorship results in fewer options, which I dont think is right.
